Creative UK and the IST (Institute of Science & Technology) are excited to announce that agreement has been reached to introduce a new Professional Registration Framework for the technical workforce within the creative industries and technologies. Endorsed by Creative UK, the Creative Registration Framework aims to provide parity of professional accreditation for creative technologists with colleagues working within the science and engineering sector workforces (e.g., professional registers offered by the Science Council and the Engineering Council).
Both parties have agreed that the next stage in the development of the Registers will commence immediately with the establishment of a Steering Group which comprises representatives from key stakeholders, which will meet to consider the strategic and practical issues associated with the establishment of the new registers.
The Steering group comprises representatives from the following organisations:
- The IST
- Creative UK
- University of Manchester
- Manchester Metropolitan University
- Brunel University London
- University of Reading
- University of Lincoln
- De Montfort University
- ScreenSkills
In the first instance a mid-career register will be developed and made available to creative technologists within the Higher Education sector. Following the establishment of the initial register it is anticipated that the registers will be extended with additions for early career and senior technical professionals. It is also intended that the range of sectors will be opened up to a wider technical cohort following the establishment of the mid-career register.
It is envisaged that registrations awarded under the new creative framework will become available in the autumn/winter of 2023.
