Affiliate Membership

Affiliate Membership is designed for those at the beginning of their career in STEMM, the Creative Industries, Artificial Intelligence, and technical disciplines. Whether you are an apprentice, T-Level student, undergraduate, or within your first two years of professional practice, this membership grade connects you to a respected professional body dedicated to supporting the technical workforce.

This is your opportunity to build confidence, credibility, and community from day one.

Who is Affiliate Membership for?

Affiliate Membership is open to individuals aged 16 and over who are:

  • Studying towards a recognised qualification
  • Undertaking an apprenticeship or T-Level
  • In the first two years of employment within a relevant discipline
  • Beginning their journey in technical practice

If you are taking your first steps into the profession, Affiliate Membership provides a supportive and structured starting point.

Affiliate Subscription Fee: £10.00 per annum

We are committed to ensuring professional membership is accessible at the earliest stage of your career.

Progression Pathway

Affiliate Membership is not a destination, it is a foundation. Members are encouraged to develop their skills, experience and professional confidence. Once appropriate development has been achieved. Affiliate and Associate Members may apply to upgrade to the next membership grade once they have completed at least one year at their current level. Members may apply for Fellowship when they can demonstrate that they meet the required criteria, as outlined on the Fellowship page.

Applications can be submitted by email to memberships@istonline.org.uk using the application form which is available for download below (scanned copies of qualification certificates submitted by email are accepted).
