IST AI Seminar Series – Machine learning methods in DNA and RNA sequencing technologies

IST AI Special Interest Group welcomes Dr Mike Vella, Oxford Nanopore Technologies, online on 18th January 2023 at 4pm (London time).

You are invited to join Dr Mike Vella, Director of Machine Learning Operations at Oxford Nanopore Technologies, who will be discussing how machine learning is being applied to power the sequencing technology of the future. This fascinating talk kicks off the AI Special Interest Group’s 2023 series of online seminars. It is likely to appeal to a broad range of scientists as well as anyone with an interest in the latest developments in machine learning.
Oxford Nanopore has developed a new generation of molecular sensing technology that can analyse DNA and RNA, and has the potential to be adapted for other types of molecule such as proteins. Machine learning techniques have been integral to the development and improvement of Nanopore sequencing – increasing the accuracy, speed and range of features in many of its core applications.
Oxford Nanopore Technologies plc was founded in 2005 as a spin-out from the University of Oxford. The company now employs about 900 employees from multiple disciplines including nanopore science, molecular biology and applications, informatics, engineering, electronics, manufacturing and commercialisation. The management team at Oxford Nanopore is led by CEO Dr Gordon Sanghera. The company listed on the London Stock Exchange in September 2021 (LON: ONT).
