RangL, an impact-focused project at the Alan Turing Institute, aims to ‘democratise’ the use of reinforcement learning in industry through the creation of public challenges. I will give an overview of the project and our forthcoming ‘Pathways to Net Zero’ challenge which is due to run in January 2022.
John Moriarty is Professor of Mathematics in the School of Mathematical Sciences at Queen Mary University of London, where he is also the School impact lead. He specialises in applied probability and applications to energy. Prior to joining Queen Mary, John was a Senior Lecturer in Probability and Statistics at the University of Manchester.
He holds a BA in Mathematical Sciences, M.Sc. in Applied Statistics and D.Phil. in Mathematics from the University of Oxford and, after the completion of his studies, moved to University College Cork as a post-doctoral research fellow. He held an EPSRC Early Career Research Fellowship from 2013 to 2020, and served in 2019 as Principal Organiser for the Mathematics of Energy Systems programme at the Isaac Newton Institute, Cambridge. He currently holds a Research Fellowship at the Alan Turing Institute, where he leads the ‘AI for control problems’ project.
