Creative Professional Registers
Create. Innovate. Collaborate. Lead Responsibly for a brighter creative future.

Creative UK and the IST are excited to introduce a new Professional Registration Framework for the technical workforce within the creative industries and technologies. Endorsed by Creative UK, the Creative Registration Framework aims to provide parity of professional accreditation for creative technologists with colleagues working within the science and engineering sector workforces (e.g., professional registers offered by the Science Council and the Engineering Council).
For the first time ever, individuals working in the creative sector, can receive the recognition they deserve as professional practitioners; for their competence, knowledge and skills, attitude, social responsibility and professional integrity.
The framework offers an entire level, a mid-career level and advanced level made available to creative technologists within the Higher Education and Industry sector.
Progressive Registration Pathway
The Creative registers offer a structured career pathway reflecting professional development and increasing responsibility.
Registered Technician (RTCIT)

RTCIT recognises professional technicians applying specialist knowledge and technical expertise in creative and technical practice.
Typically suitable for those qualified to Level 3 (QCF/Ofqual) with at least one year of relevant experience, RTCIT acknowledges competent practitioners operating with responsibility within defined frameworks and professional standards.
It provides recognition in its own right and may act as a progression route to RPCIT and APCIT.
Registered Practitioner (RPCIT)

RPCIT recognises those working in senior technical or practitioner roles, applying specialist knowledge with increased autonomy and professional responsibility.
Typically suitable for those qualified to Level 5 (Ofqual) with 2–3 years of relevant experience, RPCIT demonstrates professional capability at a full practitioner level.
RPCIT can act as a progression pathway toward Advanced Practitioner in Creative Technologies.
Advanced Practitioner (APCIT)

APCIT is a benchmark of professional excellence across the creative and technical professions.
It recognises senior practitioners and leaders who demonstrate high-level expertise, strategic responsibility and measurable professional impact.
Typically suitable for those qualified to Level 7 (Ofqual) with around 5 years of relevant experience, APCIT reflects advanced professional standing and leadership within the field.
