IST Artificial Intelligence Group
The AI Special Interest Group is led by a dedicated team of experienced specialists and thought leaders with deep expertise across the evolving AI landscape. Their collective insight has shaped the development of the the impactful initiatives and services that the IST can now offer, detailed on the main AI & Digital webpage. This dynamic group continues to spearhead new projects and collaborative ventures to expand the AI SIG network, fostering innovation and contributing meaningfully to the national and international AI community.

We work within several sectors: industry, the government, education and creative sectors to provide advice, guidance and expertise on the implementation of robust AI. We work with public perception to ensure everyone, from developers to users, can understand the complexities of the discipline of AI, the potential effects of AI on them as an individual, their profession, and on society as a whole. Within our interdisciplinary team we discuss AI in many different fields and work with philosophical and psychological principles underpinning human centred AI.
Current Initiatives and Projects
EU CEN/CENELEC
CEN and CENELEC develop harmonised European standards that support safety, interoperability and market access across sectors. Their work underpins EU and UK regulation, ensuring products and services meet consistent, trusted benchmarks. The IST is a Liaison Partner, which is valuable because it gives you early insight into emerging standards and a voice in shaping technical requirements, and direct influence on the frameworks that will govern your sector.

Professional Accreditation
The Institute of Science & Technology (IST) offers a dedicated AI Professional Registration framework recognising practitioners who develop, implement and oversee artificial intelligence systems in a robust, ethical and responsible manner.
This framework provides a clear, independently assessed benchmark of professional standards.
Seminars/Podcasts
Our seminar series is designed to be an opportunity to listen to both external experts and IST Members about their work or research in AI. We encourage questions and debate with all our invited speakers. We are also exploring delivering a range of podcasts moving forward.
