Professional development is essential for 21st Century technicians. To be professional, it is important to adhere to the ethics and conduct of your area of practice, maintain the standards of knowledge and practice necessary skills to fulfil your role. A key part of being registered is to participate in Professional and Personal Development (PPD) also known as Continuing Professional Development (CPD).

CPD is an important area of most professional career paths. CPD offers a mechanism by which you can document the work you do above and beyond your job role, aiding in upwards progression. At the Institute of Science and Technology we promote the importance of CPD to all our members and provide a simple system for maintaining your progress throughout the year.

The two systems we offer for renewal are off-line (paper based with links to forms below), or you can use CPD Central (please contact the registrations email below for information).

How to renew

In order to remain on the Science Council register, you will need to complete a PPD/CPD form and sign the renewal declaration form. These forms are both found below.

If there are reasons why you are unable to submit your PPD report you can request a PPD submission deferral, which may be approved at our discretion, depending on the reason for the deferral. Click here to download a PPD deferral form

How to pay

The annual cost for registration renewal is different across each of the registers. Please note that this is in addition to the annual membership fee, and that a paid up membership is a requirement of professional registration.

  1. On our secure portal (online payments or paypal) – if you have no paypal account, you can do one transfer without needing to be signed up to paypal: https://istonline.org.uk/online-payments/
  2. You can make a BACS payment (Payment can be made into Santander Bank, Sort Code: 09-01-50, Account No: 06825257) – please include your name and membership number in the reference.
  3. We can create an invoice if you are able to requisition a Purchase Order (or put us into contact with someone who can).
