BBSRC Survey of Non-faculty Researchers and Technicians

The survey closed on 9th November.

BBSRC is  seeking your help in gathering both information and views from non-faculty researchers performing essential research and research support roles.  These staff are involved in activities such as (but not restricted to):

  • Operation and development of instrumentation
  • Support for and development of software
  • Support for data analysis, curation and management, including statistical and bioinformatics support
  • Support for experimental methods, data collection, sample preparation.

The individuals employed in these positions have a diversity of contracts, and are frequently employed as experimental officers, technical staff, core facility staff and as permanent and temporary staff.

A recent report makes a number of observations regarding careers for research and research support staff, and accordingly BBSRC have initiated this survey to  build up a better picture of the individuals employed in these roles. Despite their importance to research, we have little  information on them as a group and the diversity of job titles, roles contracts and conditions make addressing them as a group extremely difficult. Your network will have many of these  researchers as members, and I would be very grateful if you could circulate this survey to them.
