We asked you what you wanted – and you told us.
Firstly a very big thank you to all of you who took the time to complete the survey – we value your opinions. Over 500 members and non-members took part in our survey and what you told us will directly feed into what the IST plans to do in the future.
Careers advice, Health and Safety and mentoring opportunities were revealed as the most popular subjects for an IST conference/workshop. We plan to address this by rolling out a national series of Master Classes later this year, starting with one in London about managing your career (more details to follow).
We asked what member benefits would you like the IST to offer and the most popular response was access to a dedicated technical information area, this is something that we are exploring and we are currently looking at ways to best deliver this to our members. Access to technical qualifications and e-learning opportunities, dedicated technical forums and a technical mentoring scheme were also very popular and the IST executive committee will be meeting in the near future to decide what we can do to develop these.
The IST is fully committed to the Science Councils registration scheme and making it accessible to our members. Registration through the IST is already available but you told us that to improve our service we should offer online advice. This is something the IST has been exploring since we became a Licensed Body and we hope to take this forward early next year.
Finally congratulations to Aileen Hillier, a Senior Science Technician at Guilsborough County School, who won the i-Pad for taking part in the survey, the i-Pad is currently on its way to her.
